Scripture Devotion

The biggest "yet" in Scripture.

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Habakkuk 3:17–18 (KJV)

Reflection

Count the losses first — every one of them. The fig tree, the vines, the olive, the fields, the flock, the herd. Habakkuk names total agricultural collapse, line by line, sparing himself no part of the ruin. He does not pretend the losses aren't real or won't hurt. And then the hinge, the biggest yet in Scripture: Yet I will rejoice. The joy is not because of the circumstances — it stands in flat defiance of them. This is not denial; it's a rejoicing anchored to something the failed harvest can't touch: the God of his salvation, who remains when the fields are bare. A hard-week verse that refuses to lie about the hardship and rejoices anyway.

Motivational Quote

The last freedom: choosing your response.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances.
Viktor Frankl

Application

Frankl wrote that from inside the worst circumstances imaginable, which is what gives it authority. The one freedom no loss can strip is the freedom of response. Whatever this week has taken or threatened, the choice of how to meet it remains entirely yours. Exercise the freedom nothing can take.
