Psalm 63:1 (KJV)
Psalm 63:1 (KJV)

Scripture Devotion

The thirst isn't the problem. It's the compass.

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.
Psalm 63:1 (KJV)

Reflection

The seeking is early, and the longing is physical. This is not a mild, intellectual interest in God — it's thirst, the whole body's demand for water in a place that has none. David wrote it in an actual wilderness, and the metaphor is not decoration. He means the need is that basic and that urgent. Sunday is the day to name that thirst honestly rather than manage around it. The dry-land seasons come to everyone, and the counsel here is not to wait for the landscape to change before seeking, but to seek early, precisely because the land is dry. The thirst is not the problem to be solved. It's the compass pointing home.

Motivational Quote

The heart is restless until it rests in Him.

Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in thee.
Augustine

Application

Augustine names the ache under all the week's striving — the restlessness that no amount of accomplishment finally settles. Sunday is the day to stop feeding the restlessness with more output and let it rest where it was made to rest. Bring the coming week into that rest before it begins rather than after it exhausts you. Vigilate.
