Scripture Devotion

You can't hear over your own noise.

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

Reflection

The command is be still — and it runs against every instinct, because stillness feels like doing nothing while the world demands motion. But the stillness here isn't idleness; it's the deliberate quieting that makes room to know. The knowing depends on the stillness. You can't hear over your own noise. And what's known in the stillness is a matter of proportion: I am God. The verse re-sizes things. In the stillness, the frantic urgencies shrink and the one enduring fact stands up to its full height — a God who will be exalted, whose exaltation doesn't depend on the week's outcomes. Sunday is the day to be still, and in the stillness to let the proportions come right.

Motivational Quote

Measured by obstacles overcome, not positions reached.

Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.
Booker T. Washington

Application

Washington, born into slavery and building a university from nothing, measured success by obstacles cleared rather than heights reached. It's a Sunday-sized reframe: look back not at how far up you got but at what you came through to get here. The overcoming is the truer measure — and it re-frames the coming week's obstacles as the very material of success. Vigilate.
