Scripture Devotion
The secret things aren't yours to carry.
“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
Reflection
The verse draws a line between two territories. On one side, the secret things — what stays hidden, the whys we don't get answered, the outcomes we can't see. Those belong unto the LORD. Not withheld cruelly, but held by someone; they have an owner, and it isn't us. On the other side, the things which are revealed — what we've actually been given to know and to do. Those belong unto us. And here's the freedom in it: we're responsible for the revealed, not the secret. So much anxiety comes from trying to manage the hidden side — to figure out what was never ours to figure out. The verse hands that back and points us to what is ours: do the revealed thing. The known next step is the whole assignment.
