Not if the waters come — when. And through, not around.
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”
Reflection
Read the small words carefully, because they carry the whole promise. Not if thou passest through the waters — when. The waters and the fire are treated as certainties, not possibilities; the verse makes no pretense that the hard passages can be avoided. And it's through, not around — the way out leads through the middle of the thing. What's promised, then, isn't exemption but company and preservation: I will be with thee, and thou shalt not be burned. You will go through it; you will not go through it alone; and it will not consume you. By Thursday, whatever waters or fire the week has brought, the verse doesn't offer a detour. It offers a presence in the middle and a promise on the far side.
