Scripture Devotion

Not above criticism — above reproach. The charge doesn't stick because the life doesn't match it.

“The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.”
Proverbs 21:1 (KJV)

Reflection

Proverbs says even a king's heart runs in a channel God has cut — the most powerful man in the land, steered like irrigation water. And in the same morning's reading, Paul lays out the overseer's requirement: blameless, one who rules his own house well. Both passages land on the same ground. The man God trusts with public weight is the one whose private hours would survive the light. Before the day asks anything of you, ask whether the unwatched version of you matches the watched one. That's where the watchman is actually made.

Motivational Quote

No longer talk at all about the kind of man that a good man ought to be, but be such.

“No longer talk at all about the kind of man that a good man ought to be, but be such.”
— Marcus Aurelius

Application

The most powerful man in the Roman world wrote that in a private notebook he never intended anyone to read — which is exactly why it counts. No audience, no performance, just the standard applied in the dark. It's Paul's requirement for the overseer in this morning's reading: above reproach, the private record matching the public one. Today, stop describing the man you intend to be and spend one unwatched hour being him.
