Scripture Devotion

Come Boldly

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)

Reflection

The verse does not say come casually, and it does not say come qualified. It says come boldly — not because the watchman has earned the hearing, but because the One on the throne has fixed its terms: mercy, and grace to help in time of need. Prayer is the supply line of the watch. Use it like one.

Motivational Quote

Large Petitions

“Thou art coming to a King, / Large petitions with thee bring; / For his grace and pow'r are such, / None can ever ask too much.”
— John Newton

Application

Newton's counsel is the hymn-form of the day's verse: thou art coming to a King. Small requests are not humility before a throne of grace — they are unbelief wearing humility's coat. Bring the large petition you have been trimming down to polite size, and ask it whole.
