Scripture Devotion

An Anchor of the Soul

“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;”
Hebrews 6:19 (KJV)

Reflection

An anchor works unseen — it holds from a place the sailor cannot visit, in ground he must trust without inspecting. So with this hope: it has entered within the veil, fastened where no storm reaches. The line may strain. The ship may swing. The anchor is not negotiating.

Motivational Quote

The Anchor Holds

“In every rough and stormy gale, / My anchor holds within the veil.”
— Edward Mote

Application

Mote set the day's verse to meter: the anchor holds within the veil — in every rough and stormy gale, not only in the fair-weather ones. The holding is not felt at the anchor; it is felt at the line, as strain. If the line is straining today, that is not the grip failing. That is the grip working.
